ISLAMABAD: The Cabinet Committee on State-Owned Enterprises (CCoSOEs) has approved a comprehensive plan to retain the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) as a streamlined and efficient centre of excellence, aimed at promoting Brand Pakistan on the global stage and strengthening the country’s tourism marketing framework.
Under the revamped structure, PTDC will focus on tourism policy support, improved coordination among government agencies, and strategic marketing initiatives to enhance Pakistan’s visibility as a travel destination. The restructuring also includes staff rationalisation and a revised board composition to ensure stronger governance and operational efficiency.
The committee directed the relevant ministry to submit a detailed proposal covering the funding model and future management of PTDC’s assets. The meeting, chaired by Federal Minister for Finance Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, was attended by senior officials from key ministries and divisions.
Tourism plays a vital role in strengthening the economy of every visitor and destination alike, as it creates income opportunities for local communities, supports small businesses, and generates employment across sectors such as hospitality, transport, handicrafts, and food services. When travelers visit a country, their spending directly contributes to local livelihoods and indirectly stimulates broader economic growth, helping improve infrastructure, preserve cultural heritage, and promote sustainable development. By investing in tourism, countries not only attract global visitors but also create lasting economic benefits for both hosts and travelers through enriched experiences and stronger people-to-people connections.
