KARACHI: As some construction work is underway at Gwadar Airport and on runway, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) is keeping the airport closed and non-operation till July 31 and An alternative runway has not been designated by the authority as yet. Sources said following the refurbishment work, the Airbus A-320 will be able to land at the airport. It was decided during a high-level meeting on Wednesday, 12 Julywith PM’s Advisor on Aviation Sardar Mehtab Ahmad Khan in the chair. DUBAI: Emirates airline has denied any plans of cutting back on its existing workforce, a Gulf News report quoting a spokesperson of the airline said. The Dubai-based carrier was responding to media reports on Tuesday that it is laying off “dozens” of its staff to streamline its operations. Emirates continues to hire new employees and has no immediate plans to reduce its existing workforce, the spokesperson said. The airline, however, confirmed that it has cut back on recruitment of additional personnel, as it utilises existing human resources to maintain its operations.

A volcano on Alaska’s Aleutian Island chain that has erupted frequently in the past eight months has sent up another ash cloud, leading an agency to issue a warning to aviation. Frequent eruption of the volcano can prove very dangerous for the aviation industry of the region around. The Alaska Volcano Observatory says the Bogoslof volcano erupted at 10:15 a.m. Saturday Alaska time, creating an ash cloud that rose to 5.6 miles (9 kilometers) above sea level. The agency issued a red warning/alert to aviation because of the ash cloud. Bogoslof has erupted periodically since mid-December.

DUBAI: It’s now official: Dubai International Airport has the fastest internet connection among major passenger terminals around the world. It looked at speeds of free airport Wi-Fi and local cellular signals at the busiest airline hubs.
