KARACHI: An Emergent meeting held at Karachi Head Office Of Travel Agents Association Of Pakistan (TAAP) on 28th February 2020 to address the concerns of Travel /Tour Operators, Umrah Pilgrims And Zaireens Stranded In Iran after Saudi Arabia suspends entry for Umrah pilgrimage as well as tourist –visa holders over coronavirus fears in attempt to ensure public safety by preventing the spread of the coronavirus. Although the Saudi officials stressed that the restrictions are temporary and will be continuously reviewed by the health authorities.
The members of Travel Agents Association of Pakistan (TAAP) expressed their serious concerns/reservations that both Governments of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Pakistan take immediate necessary steps to overcome the situation rise due to Coronavirus Saudi Government has imposed a ban on the entry of Umrah pilgrims and tourists from various countries including Pakistan. The business activities of our members – Travel Agents, Umrah and Tour Operators, have been stopped suddenly and intending Umrah pilgrims are demanding refunds of their payments.
TAAP requests the Government of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for their support and help which would save Travel Agents, Umrah/ Tour Operators and pilgrims from heavy losses in terms of cancellation of Air tickets, Hotel Reservations, Transport, and other expenses.
TAAP proposed the following points for immediate consideration of Saudi and Pakistani Governments:
1. Visas already issued to applicants who cannot travel due to the said travel ban may kindly be considered for a full refund of visa fees, or the visa expiry dates are extended till 15th Shawal 1441.
2. For hotel reservations and tickets already issued, the concerned airlines/ vendors should be instructed to waive off all charges, penalties, and taxes and settle a full refund for cancellations.
3. Due to the current ban, a large number of Pakistani Zyarat Zaireen from Iran/Iraq who have been stranded due to suspension of flight operation between Pakistan and Iran immediate arrangement may be made for their return to Pakistan.
