ISLAMABAD: Hashoo Group is launching a professional tourism and hospitality management school, in collaboration with Sheffield Business School of Sheffield Hallam University, United Kingdom. Following a two-year diploma in Pakistan, qualifying students of Hashoo School of Hospitality Management (HSHM) will have the opportunity to complete an additional third year at Sheffield Hallam University, graduating with a Sheffield Hallam Degree – a BSc in International Hospitality Management.

“I am delighted to welcome you all today to launch what has been a long-standing ambition of our group, and that is equally now an ambition shared by the government and country as a whole,” said Hashoo Group Deputy Chairman and CEO Mr. Murtaza Hashwani, while speaking at the launch of HSHM at Islamabad Marriott Hotel on Thursday, May 02, 2019.

The travel and tourism industry is an undisputed key global economic driver. The World Travel and Tourism Council Report of 2018 highlighted that the industry contributes 10.4 per cent of Global GDP and one in 10 jobs (9.9 per cent of global employment). Indeed, in the last decade, one in five of all global net jobs have been in this sector. All indices are only forecast to rise in the next decade, much faster than economies as a whole. We are experiencing this growth right now in Pakistan and combined with the much-improved security situation and other initiatives such as a more welcoming visa regime, our country’s potential growth will, no doubt, eclipse the average as we emerge into the international spotlight.

Leading the hospitality industry for nearly four decades, Hashoo Group owns and operates the five-star Pearl-Continental Hotels and Marriott Hotels as well as the Hotel One brand in Pakistan. The group is also launching four new five-star Pearl-Continental Hotels in Hayatabad, Malam Jabba, Mirpur and Multan this year.

In addition to considerable investments in infrastructure, Hashoo Group also realises the significance of investing in human capital development. Through the Pearl-Continental brand, we bring decades of brand equity, operational expertise and management experience to this collaboration.

“I am very proud to share that the vision for this partnership is one of true collaboration between professionals, academic organisations and countries for the greater good,” said Sheffield Hallam University Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Mr. Kevin Kerrigan.

The first campus of HSHM will be established in Bani Gala and the first term will commence in September this year, enrolling 400 students annually. In addition to plans of merit-based sponsorship funded by Hashoo Group, talks are underway for seeking additional grants in the form of scholarships.

The course outline for the diploma in Pakistan will include, amongst others, the following modules: Academic and Professional Skills, Business Analysis for the Service Sector, Global Food, Drink and Society, Hospitality Principles and Practices, Management of Food and Beverage Operations, Marketing Communications, Academic Research Skills, Hotel Outlet Management, Managing Food and Beverage Operations, Managing Hospitality Resources, People and Organisations in Context and Revenue Management.

The guests at the launch ceremony included Minister for Education Mr Shafqat Mahmood, Special Assistant to Prime Minister Mr Zulfi Bukhari, senior leadership from Sheffield Hallam University as well as major academic institutions in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, envoys, representatives from NGO’s and media personnel.
