KARACHI: This year, World Tourism Day is being marked under the United Nation’s theme ‘Tourism And Sustainable Transformation’. The occasion emphasizes the growing importance of sustainable and ecofriendly tourism, highlighting its power to foster prosperity, inclusivity, and environmental preservation.
Speaking to Holiday Weekly at the Saudi Tourism Roadshow in Karachi, Syed Feyaz Ali Shah, Managing Director of Sindh Tourism Development Corporation (STDC), said the day serves as a reminder of the remarkable impact of tourism on communities and economies. “Tourism plays a vital role in cultural exchange, economic growth, and sustainable development. At STDC, we are fully committed to celebrating this day with dedication and seriousness, showcasing the true potential of Sindh’s tourism,” he added.
To mark the occasion, the Ministry of Tourism, Government of Sindh, through STDC, will host a high-profile event featuring tourism scholars, writers, leading figures from travel and hospitality, government officials, airline representatives, and media professionals. Sindh’s Minister for Culture, Tourism, Antiquities & Archives, Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah, will lead the celebrations.
Highlighting recent initiatives, Feyaz Ali Shah noted that STDC is promoting the Thar Desert Train Safari as a signature tourism brand. The inaugural safari, launched on February 8, 2025, redefined tourism in Sindh, proving that travel in the province is safe and rewarding. The Azadi Desert Train Safari was also met with great success and appreciation at both public and government levels, with even PPP Co-Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari acknowledging its positive impact on Sindh’s tourism.
“Our goal is to promote responsible tourism that safeguards our environment and heritage. We are investing in infrastructure, training, and marketing to improve visitor experiences while protecting natural resources.
Working closely with the private sector and local communities, we aim to build a sustainable and prosperous tourism future, he emphasized.
Sindh, with its rich history, diverse culture, and breathtaking landscapes, offers a treasure trove of attract waiting to be explored. From its warm hospitality to its ancient heritage, the province holds the potential emerge as a premier global destination.
The UN theme “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation” further underlines the need for inclusive community development, equal prosperity, and accessibility for all-regardless of background or economic status. On this World Tourism Day, STDC will renew its commitment to position Sindh as a world-class tourism destination, while sharing its future programs for the promotion of tourism across Sindh and Pakistan.
