KARACHI: SKAL International Karachi and the Travel Agents Association of Pakistan celebrated the World Tourism Day 2018 at Karachi on September 27, 2018.
Leading personalities from Aviation & Tourism sector, including country managers of various airlines, representatives of GDS’s, travel agents and print & electronic media attended the event.
While addressing the gathering, Syed Javaid Hassan, President SKAL International Karachi Said “The purpose of celebrating and marking this day as World Tourism Day by UNWTO is to foster awareness among the international community of Tourism and its social, cultural and economic values. Each year on World Tourism Day a theme is given and this year’s theme is Tourism and the Digital Transformation”
President SKAL highlighted the importance of digital technology and artificial intelligence in the promotion of tourism industry world over.
Mr. Naeem Sharif, Chairman TAAP informed the gathering about the role of TAAP in the promotion and unification of the travel trade of Pakistan. Realizing the existing immense potential of tourism he urged the government to take legislative measures to promote and protect private investment in the travel & tourism sector.
Mr. Salman Javaid and Khawaja Jahan Zeb also spoke on the occasion and emphasized on the need to make some authority with federal government amid devolution of tourism portfolio to provinces after 18th constitutional amendment. They both hoped that the new government will take tourism seriously and make efforts for its development and promotion. SKAL Secretary Mr Khadim Rasool proposed to pass resolution to submit joint proposal from SKAL & TAAP to new Government to form Pakistan Tourism Authority with the Federal Government which was unanimously adopted. Vice President SKAL Mr Amin Wali Mohammed recognized the presence of aviation & tourism professionals in the event and proposed vote of thanks.
Guests were entertained to a sumptuous lunch after the cake cutting ceremony.
