ISLAMABAD: Serena Hotels celebrated the Press Freedom Day in Islamabad on Friday, 26th April 2019. The Bureau Chiefs of all prominent print and electronic media were invited to an exclusive get together at Islamabad Serena Hotel, followed by a cake cutting ceremony.
World Press Freedom Day was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in December 1993. Since then, 3rd May is celebrated worldwide as World Press Freedom Day. This year’s theme “Media for Democracy: Journalism and Elections in Times of Disinformation” discusses current challenges faced by media in elections, along with the media’s potential in supporting peace and reconciliation processes.
Serena Hotels management praised the Pakistani media for their positive role in the times of conflict. A tribute was paid to all those journalists who had lost their lives in the name of duty. The management also stressed on the various community initiative projects that Serena Hotels has undertook as a part of it’s diplomacy programme, and invited the media to visit the Karighar training and vocational centre that Serena Hotels is running in Gilgit Baltistan region to train and empower the less privileged women of the local area, along with a Honey Bee farming project that has financially empowered the local honey bee farmers to a great extent.
