NEW York: Global hotel chain Marriott International will mandate the wearing of masks for all guests in its hotels and resorts. It takes effect from 27 July, CEO Arne Sorenson said. The company has already made face masks compulsory for its hotel workers.
“The hospitality industry from the start has prioritized the health and safety of our guests and associates using best practices but we can do more to protect each other and our associates,” Sorenson said.
It follows recommendations issued recently by the American Hotel & Lodging Association. Marriott’s policy covers all hotels worldwide.
It is ‘extending the requirement to wear face masks in all indoor public spaces in hotels to our guests, no matter the jurisdiction.’
It will send out reminders to all guests ahead of their check-in date.
Hyatt Hotels is also requiring hotel guests to wear masks starting on the same date.
It becomes compulsory at a ‘pivotal time’ said Hyatt CEO Mark Hoplamazian, ‘amidst the ongoing challenges of Covid-19.’
The AHLA’s campaign also has support from Hilton, Wyndham, and Radisson Hotels and Resorts
