RAWALPINDI: Pakistani youth must be motivated to engage in mountain protection and adventure activities. This was stated by General Manager Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC), Ali Akbar Malik while inaugurating the International Mountains Day Photo Exhibition. PTDC organized International Mountain Day Photo Exhibition on 11th December 2018 at Flashman’s Hotel, Rawalpindi. The UN General Assembly declared 11 December from 2002 onwards every year as International Mountain Day. This special day serves to highlight the global importance of mountain ecosystems and to promote ongoing attention to the unique needs of mountain communities.

Speaking on the occasion, GM PTDC Ali Akbar Malik MD PTDC said that International Mountain Day is an opportunity to create awareness about the importance of mountains to life, to highlight the opportunities and constraints in mountain development and to build partnerships that will bring positive change to the world’s mountains and highlands.

He added that Pakistan is the most spectacular and fascinating region. Here, world’s three famous mountain ranges meet – the Himalayas, the Karakorams and the Hindukush. The whole Northern Pakistan is like a paradise for mountaineers, climbers, trekkers, hikers and anglers. 5 out of 14 world’s highest peaks over 8000m lie here in Pakistan with K2 the second highest peak.

As the national tourism organization, PTDC’s efforts to promote and develop tourism, especially in mountain areas of Pakistan are not hidden truth. PTDC setup its resorts / motels in far-flung and remote mountain areas of Pakistan where public sector was shy to invest.

Photo exhibition was attended by large number of students and families from the twin cities.
