Demand for air travel continues to grow on the back of a ‘brighter economic picture’ and ‘lower air fares’, according to the latest IATA figures. June data from the International Air Transport Association showed demand rose by 7.8% year-on-year, on the back of 7.7% growth recorded in May, with all regions reporting growth. Meanwhile, June capacity (available seat kilometers) increased by 6.5%, and load factor rose 1 percentage point to 81.9%. RIYADH: Riyadh Airports Company and Uber have signed an agreement to transport passengers to and from King Khalid International Airport (KKIA) in the Saudi capital, Riyadh. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) said India tops the growth chart in the first half of this year. As per the data, India’s domestic air traffic growth rose 20.3 per cent in June, the highest among major markets. The demand is measured in terms of total revenue passenger kilometres or RPKs. “Domestic India RPKs grew by 18.6 per cent in year-on-year terms in H1 2017, with annual RPK posting its 34th consecutive month of double-digit growth in June,” IATA said today. ISLAMABAD: The New Islamabad International Airport that was set to be inaugurated on August 14 will now be open in December, it emerged on Tuesday. The delay was revealed in a Senate Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat which met with Talha Mehmood in the chair citing incomplete link road. NEW DELHI: The number of tourists arriving in India on medical visa has more than doubled in the last two years, the Indian government told on Wednesday, 2 August. The number of arrivals in India on medical visa was 66,254 in 2014, which grew to 1, 22,121 in 2015 and 1, 77,972 in 2016.
