ISLAMABAD: Catering to the modern needs of tourists, the motels of PTDC are being up-graded and modernized ensuring the best possible facilities; this was stated by Managing Director, PTDC Ch. Abdul Ghafoor Khan while talking to media after briefing Prime Minister Khaqan Abbasi on tourism industry of Pakistan.

Ghafoor stated that PTDC is going to hold an international Conference, which will be participated, by the member countries that will also help us to project soft image of Pakistan. Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation will inaugurate city tour bus service on December 20 for Islamabad here at Pakistan China Centre. The bus service will cater the needs of visiting students and families to federal capital. PTDC would offer special discount packages for students to promote tourism activities among them. He said that the main aim of this project was to facilitate the tourists as much as we could do and to promote tourism in the country.

The Managing Director apprized the Prime Minister about the problems currently being faced by PTDC like the tenure of the existing Board of Directors which was constituted in September, 2014 for a period of two years has now been expired in last September, 2017 and submitted that a summary is being forwarded to Prime Minster for approval for reconstitution of PTDC Board which will elect its Chairman for further period of two year, effective from September, 2017 onwards.

The M.D. has further stated that to make PTDC a self-sustained, progressive and tourist friendly organization a Comprehensive Business Plan is being prepared which will be submitted to the Prime Minister for approval shortly.

Prime Minister appreciated the efforts of Mr. Ghafoor for the promotion and development of tourism in the country. The Prime Minster has further said that PTDC may up-grade the existing facilities like Hotel and Motels and discover new avenues ensuring provision of modern facilities to tourists.

PTDC being foreign exchange earner organization and above all its affiliation with UN-World Tourism Organization and other international Bodies has increased its importance manifolds.

The MD told that Prime Minister said that role of PTDC in development of tourism sector is commendable. There is need to do a lot more so that Pakistan’s tourism Industry may flourish and it is known as a unique brand over the tourism world. The Prime Minister has assured every possible support and provision of requisite funds to achieve the set targets. Moreover, in view of the significance of tourism in country, the M.D. requested the Prime Minister that PTDC must be retained at federal level by pulling out PTDC from Concurrent List of 18th Constitutional amendment and the notification issued in this regard is to be withdrawn.

The Prime Minister has lauded the suggestions put forward for promotion of tourism in the country by PTDC and reiterated his full support for promotion of tourism in the country.
