ISLAMABAD: Retired Flight Lieutenant Khaqan Murtaza has been appointed the permanent Director-General of the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA), a notification from the Establishment Division issued on Friday, November 27.

The notification of the Establishment reads as : “The federal government has appointed Flt Lt (Retd) Khaqan Murtaza, a BS-21 officer of Pakistan Administrative Service, presently posted under government of Sindh, as Director General (of) Civil Aviation Authority, under section 10 of the Civil Servant Act, 1973 with immediate effect and until further orders.”

Before this notification Murtaza was working as principal secretary to the Sindh governor. He was also the Chief Executive Officer of the Sindh Infrastructure Development Company Limited.

As a CSP officer Khaqan Has extensive experience of administration, procurement and project management. He remained Chairmen EOBI, Managing Director Utility Stores Corporation of Pakistan, Managing Director SPPRA and Managing Director PEPCO.

The issue of the vacant position came up earlier when PIA flight PK 8303 crashed in a densely-populated residential area near Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport.

Concerns about Pakistan’s aviation sector rose further significantly after the fake ‘pilots degrees scandal’. CAA which manages around 20 top airports across the country was without a DG for over two year.
