KARACHI: A well-attended event was held to honour Late Master Eqbal Mehdi at Karachi Marriott, on Tuesday, September 04, 2018 where the treasure trove of Late Eqbal Mehdi’s work was created over a long period of his state at Hashoo Group Properties.

The event was held to Commemorate Late Eqbal Mehdi for the first time in the history of over 40 years. The Hashoo Group decided to use their art collection through auction and use the auction proceeds for “Spreading Smiles to Miles” with key focus in less developed areas of Pakistan.
Apart from the sensitive pen and ink depictions of attractive young women Mehdi is known for his history paintings. Massive reproductions of works by the Orientalist painters of the eighteenth century mounted at vantage locations in Hashoo group hotels lobbies familiarised the average non gallery public with the artist and his art.
The Hashwani family has a long-standing heritage of philanthropy dating back to the last six generations. Institutionalizing this tradition, the family established the Hashoo Foundation in1988 under the chairmanship of Mr. Sadruddin Hashwani. The event was inaugurated by a very well-known personality Mr. Anwar Maqsood, who himself is a versatile artist in his own right.
Mr. Rehan Faiz Pirzada, Cluster General Manager-Karachi Marriott Hotel officially welcomed the honorable guests to this evening and share his thoughts on the occasion.
There are some hardworking people who convert the plans into reality and we would like to acknowledge the efforts put together by Mr. Sharafat Ali, Head of Group Hashoo Art & Antiques/Chairman’s Secretariat who conceived the idea of organizing first ever auction by HASHOO GROUP. His long association with Hashoo Group speaks volumes about the group and Mr. Sharafat for the immense value they add to the mission.
The leading personalities of Karachi including art lovers and collectors attended the exhibition and auction. This exhibition was opened for art lovers on September 5, 2018 from 11:00 am to 11:00 pm at Karachi Marriott Hotel.
