The day is being celebrated the world over to highlight tourism’s role in bringing the different cultures closer to each other, bringing peace & harmony and promoting global understanding through sustainable tourism.
UNWTO is observing 2017 as the International Year for Sustainable Tourism, for that purpose the organization has launched a new campaign aimed at raising awareness of the value and contribution that sustainable tourism can make towards development.
Called ‘Travel.Enjoy.Respect’, the campaign is being run in various languages and outlets around the world. The message through the campaign is sent to the world whenever you travel, wherever you travel, remember to: respect nature, respect culture, and respect your host.
Today more than ever, ensuring that tourism is an enriching experience for visitors and hosts alike demands strong, sustainable tourism policies and practices and the engagement of national, as well as local, governments and administrations, private sector companies, local communities and tourists themselves.

A key priority for a more sustainable tourism industry is to deal with the impact of aviation on spiraling carbon emissions.
