ABU DHABI: Etihad Airways’ Group Chief Executive Officer Antonoaldo Neves recently revealed the airline’s comprehensive expansion plans for 2024. The group’s strategic vision encompasses widening its destination network, increasing flight options, and reinforcing its global footprint with sustainable growth at the center.

Etihad Airways is set to introduce Boston as its fourth destination in the United States. It will start initiating four weekly flights from March 31. Additionally, the airline will commence operations in Nairobi, Kenya, from May 1. Earlier in January, the airline added Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala, India, bringing the total number of destinations served by Etihad Airways in India to 10.

A significant aspect of Etihad Airways’ expansion plan involves an increase in the number of flights to various destinations. Notable among them are Cairo with 21 weekly flights, Colombo with 7, Islamabad with 14, and the Maldives with 14 flights. Moreover, Neves anticipates a surge in passenger numbers to 18 million by 2025, surpassing pre-COVID-19 levels. He highlighted the 30 percent growth in the number of passengers last year compared to 2022 Etihad Airways witnessed.

Neves also underlined Etihad Airways’ strengthened global presence and improved financial position, setting the stage for sustainable and profitable growth. The CEO highlighted the airline’s Etihad Airways 2030 strategy, backed by ADQ Holdings, which focuses on expanding the network to over 125 destinations.

Moreover, Neves provided insights into the airline’s fleet dynamics, emphasizing the return of large aircraft such as the Airbus A380, Boeing 787, and Boeing 777. The current fleet stands at 86 aircraft, with projections to reach 160 by 2030. Hence, Etihad’s diverse fleet, including Boeing 787, Airbus A380, Boeing 777, and Airbus A350, supports its plans for increased connectivity and global reach.

Etihad Airways’ CEO highlighted the pivotal role of the new Terminal A at Abu Dhabi International Airport in Etihad’s growth strategy. With the capacity to handle 45 million passengers annually, the terminal aims to connect Abu Dhabi to 117 international destinations. Neves also emphasized the terminals’ dedicated check-in facilities for economy-class guests and exclusive areas for business and first-class travelers, contributing to a premium travel experience.

Furthermore, Etihad Airways plays a vital role in boosting Abu Dhabi’s economic ambitions. The enhanced connectivity options the new terminal provides position Abu Dhabi as a hub for business and tourism. They foster economic growth in the capital and contribute to the broader development of the UAE and the GCC countries on the global stage.
