KARACHI: Women on Board PK, the non for profit trust that works for creating and expanding the leadership opportunities for women in corporate, social, public and philanthropic sectors, presented the “BoardTalks” Women Leadership Development Program in the city of Pakistan’s premier industrial and financial centre, Karachi, this Wednesday 24th October at Ball Hall of Hotel PC.

With the vision to promote gender mainstreaming in leadership positions and build a diverse pipeline of board-ready and board-certified women professionals in Pakistan, WOB invited women professionals working in different corporate, business, entrepreneurial, social, public and other professional sector entities for an interactive lecture/talk program aimed at training and mentoring the future female leaders of Pakistan by offering insights from leading corporate/business professionals.

The Guest Speaker Mrs. Ameena Saiyid, Chairperson of Oxford University Press while addressing the gathering spoke about her perspectives on leadership skill sets, accompanied by Guest of Honor, Mrs Shamshad Akhtar, former Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, gave a motivational lecture on advancing women in work.

Recognizing the leadership development needs for women professionals, Hashoo Group has extended invaluable hospitality facilities to WOB for the holding of 18 BoardTalks Sessions at its leading hotels in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad  in the following months of November, January, February, April and May. The programs are going to have a focus on these particular areas: Women Leadership – Why it matters?, Essential Leadership Skillsets, Practical Aspects of Corporate Leadership/Board Matters and Emerging Ethical and Governance Trends.

Women on Board (WOB) Pakistan work to address the acute imbalance of women professionals on the corporate Boards and higher management hierarchy in Pakistan. WOB-Pakistan advocates increased representation of women on corporate Boards and enhanced business leadership and economic empowerment opportunities for them.

Since its inception, WOB has not only been instrumental in getting the domestic legislative and regulatory frameworks changed requiring a higher gender representation on corporate boards, but has also trained and mentored many women professionals across Pakistan.
