KARACHI: (Report–M. Rizwan Sami) By Sindh’s rich culinary heritage, rooted in the ancient Indus Valley Civilization and enriched by Central Asian, Persian and Mughal influences, came alive at the Sindh Food Festival hosted by Avari Towers Karachi.
On Saturday, September 12, we were invited to this colourful culinary celebration at The Sky Grill Restaurant, situated on the 17th-floor rooftop of Avari Towers. The ambience, traditional hospitality, music and authentic cuisine beautifully reflected the rich culture and heritage of Sindh.
Upon arrival, guests were warmly welcomed by Mr. Naveed Ishtiaq, Director Sales; Mr. Imran Khan, F&B Manager; and Ms. Asqa-e-Noor, Cluster PR & Marketing Manager, Avari Towers Karachi. The staff, dressed in traditional Sindhi attire, added an authentic cultural touch and reflected the warmth and hospitality traditionally associated with Sindhi families.
Guests were welcomed with Thadal, a refreshing traditional Sindhi drink prepared with almonds, poppy seeds, melon seeds, aromatic spices and rose petals, blended with chilled milk or water. It was a perfect beginning to the evening.
The festival was formally inaugurated through a ribbon-cutting ceremony performed by Ch. Faisal Mehmood, CEO & Chief Editor, Holiday Weekly, and Ahmed Nawaz Jakhrani, along with Mr. Naveed Ishtiaq, Mr. Imran Khan, Ms. Asqa-e-Noor, DG Excise & Taxation Balochistan Zaman Khattak, Mr. Raja Arshad and other distinguished guests.
The festival features more than 50 traditional Sindhi dishes, prepared under the supervision of Pakistani chefs and food experts. Mr. Imran Khan Karkar, F&B Manager, welcomed the guests and briefed electronic and print media about the festival, while Ms. Asqa-e-Noor thanked the guests and customers for joining the celebration.
The sumptuous spread included Sindhi Mutton Biryani, Haleem, Paya, Shikarpuri Jheenga, Sindhi Siyal Murgh, Sindhi Paneer Fry, Saaye Masale Wali Kukkar, Bhae Aloo, Sindhi Kadhi and Sindhi Ghosht, along with a wide variety of BBQ dishes prepared with traditional Sindhi spices. A chaat corner and an assortment of breads further enhanced the feast.
The dessert selection was equally tempting, featuring Rabri, Kajak, Kheer, Til ke Ladoo, Firni and Sohan Halwa—a delightful finale and, for those on a diet, perhaps the evening’s greatest temptation!
Adding another dimension to the experience, traditional Sindhi music played in the background, providing “food for the ears” while the cuisine delighted the palate.
The Sindhi Food Festival, open to everyone until September 18, 2026, from 7:30 pm to 11:00 pm, at The Sky Grill Restaurant, Avari Towers Karachi, is much more than a food event. It is a vibrant celebration of Sindh’s flavours, traditions, culture and hospitality.
Kudos to Avari Towers Karachi for bringing an authentic taste of Sindh to the heart of Karachi—where taste met tradition and heritage came alive.
