COLOMBO: The National Flag carrier of Sri Lanka, SriLankan Airlines welcomed the final addition to its new generation Airbus A321 Neo fleet. The aircraft arrived at the airline’s home base in Bandaranaike International Airport from Hamburg via Abu Dhabi.
SriLankan Airlines now has six Airbus Neo aircraft and 27 aircraft in total in its fleet with the newest acquisition. The acquisition of the A321 Neo new generation aircraft is part of the airline’s strategic expansion plan, and will further boost capacity on it short to medium haul routes to the Middle East, Indian subcontinent, Southeast Asia and China.
SriLankan Airlines, which is already quite popular with Middle East travellers for its fine in-flight service, excellent hospitality and efficient connections to Colombo and onward to Asia and Australia, is expected to put the new A321s into good use on the busier routes in the Middle East to Colombo sector.
SriLankan Airlines is looking to attract even more tourists and business travellers from the GCC, by leveraging the enormous pulling power of the Indian Ocean island paradise combined with seamless onward connections to India, Southeast, East and North Asia as well as to Australia.
Responding to growing demand from the region, SriLankan Airlines has recently boosted its services with daily flights to Colombo from Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha, Riyadh, Muscat, Bahrain and Kuwait. The airline is also looking at increasing connectivity to other parts of the Gulf depending on demand.
