ISTANBUL: Turkish Airlines set up a special check-in desk for economy class women passengers flying out of Istanbul on the International Women’s Day, according to a statement on Wednesday, March 8.

The flag carrier offered “business class service” to more than 200 women passengers on more than 50 flights, giving them flowers and chocolates along with special in-flight announcements, the statement said.

International Women’s Day, celebrated on March 8, was born after the labor movements’ activities in the U.S. and Europe at the beginning of the 20th century.

Turkish Airlines is also offering 20 lucky women, visiting the airline’s stand at the ITB Berlin — “the world’s leading travel trade show” in the German capital, the chance to get a free return ticket for a destination of their choice.

International Women’s Day, celebrated on March 8, was born after the labor movements’ activities in the U.S. and Europe at the beginning of the 20th century.

Turkey’s flag carrier has over 330 aircraft and flies to almost 300 destinations around the world, more than any other airline, according to the company. The airline increased its total number of passengers by 2.5 percent year-on-year to reach 62.8 million in 2016, according to a stock exchange filing report revealed on Jan. 11. Turkish Airlines was named Airline of the Year by Air Transport News magazine readers in March last year.
