LAHORE: A special seminar on Breast Cancer was organized under the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) at FPCCI Regional Office Lahore. Participants were briefed on the different types, causes, early symptoms, treatment and prevention of cancer, and preventive measures.
The Breast Cancer Prevention Campaign is launched worldwide in October every year. This day aims to raise awareness about the causes of cancer and raise the voice for its prevention, both individually and collectively.
Addressing the participants on occasion, Dr. Shehla Javed Akram said that breast cancer treatment is possible only with timely diagnosis. Therefore, there is an urgent need for new breast cancer screening centers. In addition, awareness campaigns are being run worldwide to prevent breast cancer so that if someone has breast cancer, they can be treated in time. It is a treatable disease and can be cured with timely diagnosis, she added.
FPCCI Punjab Women Entrepreneur Coordinator Qaisra Sheikh said that hundreds of women worldwide die of breast cancer every year. Unfortunately, due to social pressures in Pakistan, 70% of women with breast cancer go to the doctor in a critical condition. However, if diagnosed early, about 90% of women’s lives can be saved.
Former presidents of Lahore Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry Rukhsana Zafar, Shazia Salman, Faiza Nabil, Rifat Malik, Rabia Usman, and others attended the seminar.
