KARACHI: The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has designed a plan to implement ‘Road to Makkah’ project for Hajj operation 2019.

The CAA has prepared a feasibility report for departure of Hajj pilgrims and the facilities being extended to them.

Data of 150 officers and staff has been collected to assist the pilgrims at Jinnah International Airport Karachi.

The CAA has allocated Rs. 5 million budget for trolleys, beautification of airport, sanitary work and other expenditures.

The chief operating officer of Jinnah International Airport Karachi has sent the plan to the concerned authorities.

The CAA spokesperson said in the first phase Islamabad airport was included in the ‘Road to Makkah’ project. “After including Jinnah International Airport Karachi in the project in the second phase, immigration process of the pilgrims will be completed in Karachi rather than Saudi Arabia,” he said.

On April 11, Federal Minister for Privatization and Aviation Mohammed Mian Soomro had announced that ‘Road to Makkah’ project would be made effective from 2019 and added that the Pakistani pilgrims, in the current year, will be facilitated under the project.

Mohammed Mian Soomro had said that under the project all immigration requirements would be fulfilled at the airport of origin and added that the pilgrims would not have to make queue in Saudi Arabia for immigration process.
