LAHORE: TDCP has been acknowledged as trend setter and catalyst and has taken several initiatives to promote tourism, culture and heritage of different tourist destinations of Punjab. Cholistan Desert Rally at Derawar has introduced Cholistan as winter resort and has also highlighted rich heritage of Cholistan.
The main objectives of the rally are:
- To promote Thal culture and historical heritage.
- To highlight the Southern Punjab and its desert for the promotion of tourism as well as International Tourism in the area.
- To provide economic opportunities for the locals.
- To create forum for inter-provincial harmony among the peoples of Pakistan.
- To intensify the passion for motor sport.
TDCP organized 1st Thal Desert Rally in 2016 which was got overwhelming response from the motor sports lovers as well as from the local community. Minister for Tourism Punjab, Mr. Yasir Humayun Sarfraz, announced 3rd Thal Desert Rally will be held from 16th to 18th November, 2018. The rally will start from Head Muhammadwala and the midpoint is Chobara, District Layyah and rally will finish at Head Muhammadwala, Muzaffargarh. The total distant is about 170 kms. 70 to 80 top drivers of the country will participate in the rally while the women drivers will also participate. The prize money is 2.5 million which will be equally distributed among the winners of all three categories. The minister added that present Government is very much keen to promote tourism in the province and country. There is a great potential in Tourism industry which will help create jobs and also bring foreign exchange in the country.
The arrangements of 3rd Thal Desert Rally 2018 are underway. A large number of tourists and local spectators are expected to visit the Thal Desert during the rally.
