DUBAI: All types of food in the UAE, including staples such as bread and rice, will be taxed from January 1, 2018, the Federal Tax Authority (FTA) has told on Wednesday morning, November 8. The public was expecting certain food staples to be zero-rated, or exempt, from the 5 per cent tax increase. LONDON: The British Hospitality Association (BHA) has expressed its outrage that proposals for a London hotel bed tax are being discussed. The London Assembly Economy Committee met on Tuesday, 7 November to discuss the proposals for a ‘tourist tariff’ introducing a hotel bed tax, which it is claimed would potentially raise between £91m to £364m a year for the UK economy. HONG KONG: Qatar Airways, The National Flag Carrier of Qatar has bought a 9.6 per cent stake in Hong Kong’s Cathay Pacific for HK$5.16 billion ($661.3 million), a report said.
