FARNBOROUGH: The Farnborough International Airshow saw $46.4 billion in deals announced on the first day, surpassing the figure achieved on the first day of the 2016 Airshow which stood at $23 billion. DUBAI: Marriott International announced that it has adopted a plan to remove disposable plastic straws and plastic stirrers from its more than 6,500 properties across 30 brands around the world. Once fully implemented in one year, the company could eliminate the use of more than 1 billion plastic straws per year and about a quarter billion stirrers. NEW DEHLI: India’s tourism ministry has launched a campaign to reassure women that they are safe in the country after a poll of experts ranked the nation as the most dangerous country in the world for women. According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), a total of 338,954 incidents of crimes against women, including nearly 38,947 cases of rape, were reported in 2016—an increase of 2.9 per cent over 2015.
