KARACHI: In a groundbreaking project, LADIESFUND Energy empowered female engineers in Pakistan by solarizing the Hooseini Yateem Khana orphanage. An all-female team, trained and certified by NED, installed a 24 KW system, marking Pakistan’s first female-led solar roof installation and potentially the world’s first by an all-female team.

A ceremony celebrated this achievement, showcasing the solar panels and giving tours of the orphanage. The training, provided by Dawood Global Foundation and supported by KFW, included 28 women engineers, with plans for future batches. The course, led by Dr. Mohsin Aman, used advanced equipment to train these women, who then executed the installation.

CEO Tara Uzra Dawood highlighted the initiative’s dual goals of training and hiring female engineers and promoting their broader participation in the energy sector. Mayor Murtaza Wahab praised the engineers and pledged government support for further training. The project, now fully operational, powers the orphanage with a hybrid solar battery and grid system, reflecting ongoing support from various stakeholders to empower female engineers and promote sustainable energy.

Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Honourable Sindh Minister for Energy & P&D, sent a special message from Islamabad, stating, “On behalf of the Sindh Government, I am deeply proud of these talented Pakistani women engineers. They truly bring honour to our nation! We wish them every success in their careers and take inspiration from their courage.”
