MASCOT: The field of contenders to replace Alan Joyce as the boss of Qantas Airways has narrowed after the shock departure of the head of its international operations after only a year and a half in the job.
Qantas said on Thursday morning, 12 April that Alison Webster had resigned as Chief Executive of Qantas International, with her last day to be on April 24.
Effective immediately, Narendra Kumar, who is the former CFO of Qantas International and is currently overseeing planning for changes to the airline’s long-haul fleet, will act in the CEO role until a permanent appointment is made.
Webster was appointed to the top job at Qantas International in November 2017, and has held a variety of senior leadership roles in the Qantas Group over the past decade.
Prior to her current role, Webster was the airline’s executive manager of freight and catering, with Australian airports added to her responsibilities in March 2017.
Before joining Qantas in 2004, Alison held a range of senior positions at British Airways in both Australia and the UK across sales, marketing and brand management.
